Rice, who hadn't scored a win in almost 2 years, needed just a round to see off Scruggs. On paper this was a good win for Rice, though if you put it in to perspective, Scruggs was a natural Cruiserweight who hadn't fought since 2006! Still it's nice for Rice to score a rare win after being matched against 3 promising unbeaten fighters.
This past Friday saw the little known "tomato can" Tobias Rice (5-10-1, 3) score a rare win an unexpected stoppage over Jeremy Scruggs (2-2, 2).

Heavyweight action returned to Slovakia this past Wednesday in an interesting Heavyweight double at the Sportova hala MSO in Šturovo.
These bouts in Slovakia saw stoppage victories for both Daniel Kol (5-1, 5) and Zoltan Somosi (13-8, 6). For Kol things were easy with the hard hitting Hungarian taking out Marton Cagany (1-2) in the third round, giving Cagany his second successive stoppage loss. Things were slightly more time consuming for Somosi however as he needed some 6 rounds to get rid of Vasil Mandea (2-4, 1). As well as the double in Slovakia there was also action in both the US and Mexico. In Mexico the once beaten Juan Manuel Dominguez (4-1, 2) gave away around 60lbs in weight though still managed to overcome the debuting Victor Bobadilla (0-1) via a unanimous decision. Whilst the Mexican bout went the distance the US one didn't as the unbeaten Jarrell Miller (5-0-1, 5) forced a second round retirement of journeyman Tobias Rice (4-9-1, 2). On Friday Polish Heavyweight Artur Szpilka stopped American journeyman Mike Mollo for a second time. Just days later one of Szpilka's biggest domestic opponents Krzysztof Zimnoch (16-0-1, 11) was in action in their native Poland.
Zimnoch, whilst not face an opponent as well known as Mollo managed to do his job as he out pointed novice opponent Mateusz Malujda (4-2, 1) over 8, very dominant rounds to claim an 80-70 shut out decision. It appears that this result moves us one step closer to a much awaited Zimnoch/Szpilka bout, a bout that should really launch the winner into a solid "top 15" ranking with one of the 4 organising bodies. The same card in Poland also featured a lesser bout as Marcin Brzeski (4-0, 3) recorded his first decision victory defeating Hrvoje Kisicek (3-5, 1) via a 4 round decision. As well as the bouts in Poland there was also a Heavyweight contest in Hungary where Zoltan Toth (2-1, 2) stopped Tamas Szatmari (0-3) inside a round. And a bout in America as Nat Heaven (7-0, 5) took a 4 round decision over Tobias Rice (4-8-1, 2) |
